Russ Permenter

Rumor has it that Russ Permenter may be leaving the Providence Friars, but details are still missing.  As seen through a conversation between Dave from Friar Blog and John Rooke, Permenter was not present on the team plane heading to Chicago.

In 11 games this year, Permenter has averaged 2.2 points and 2.1 rebounds.  However since the start of December, Russ has appeared in games for only thirty-three minutes in five games, and has not played in five others.  Being at most of the home games, he was clearly frustrated with his lack of playing time.

Part of the problem I have seen with Permenter is that when most JUCO players come to D-1, their games are very polished and they are ready to make an impact.  However, seeing Permenter play was like watching some of our other young freshman.  And by the time players like this get up to game speed, it is pretty much time for them to graduate.

If Permenter is indeed leaving, this will open up a scholarship for next season, possibly to get a young big man.  This is certainly a need on this team, and having the time to develop this player could make the Friars a serious contender next season and beyond.
